The OFFENDING eye

 Mark 9:47-48

King James Version

47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out:

it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God

with one eye,

than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

48 Where their worm dieth not,

and the fire is not quenched.

Many parts of the Bible can be taken literally.

But there's this particular verse, which cannot be taken literally.

This Bible version explains what "plucking out an offending eye" means:

Mark 9:47-48

Amplified Bible

47 If your eye causes you to stumble and sin,

throw it out [that is,

remove yourself from the source of temptation]

It would be better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye,

than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,

48 where their worm [that feeds on the dead] does not die,

and the fire is not put out.

In SUMMARY, "plucking out an offending eye" means:

throw it out [that is, remove yourself from the source of temptation]

What I understand the verse to mean is that if your eye causes you to sin, you leave the scene of the sin.

How you see with your eye is important.

Look to what JESUS said:

Matthew 5:28

King James Version

28 But I say unto you,

That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her

hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Luke 11:34

King James Version

34 The light of the body is the eye:

therefore when thine eye is single,

thy whole body also is full of light;

but when thine eye is evil,

thy body also is full of darkness.

In place of sin, these you can do:

SUBMIT yourself to GOD.

James 4:7

King James Version

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God.

Resist the devil,

and he will flee from you.

FLEE evil.

1 Thessalonians 5:22

King James Version

22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly;

and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body

be preserved blameless

unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 2:22

King James Version

22 Flee also youthful lusts:

but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace,

with them that call on the Lord

out of a pure heart.

The true born again only cares to follow what JESUS commanded:

Matthew 5:48

King James Version

48 Be ye therefore perfect,

even as your Father which is in heaven

is perfect.

Mark 1:15

King James Version

15 And saying,

The time is fulfilled,

and the kingdom of God is at hand:

repent ye,

and believe the gospel.

Luke 16:15

King James Version

15 And he said unto them,

Ye are they which justify yourselves before men;

but God knoweth your hearts:

for that which is highly esteemed among men

is abomination in the sight of God.

In these end times, FOCUS your eyes on JESUS alone.

Colossians 3:1-2

King James Version

3 If ye then be risen with Christ,

seek those things which are above,

where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above,

not on things on the earth.

On CHOOSING saints

1 Corinthians 14:33

King James Version

33 For God is not the author of confusion,

but of peace,

as in all churches of the saints.

Man does greatly err.

We do not have the power to choose saints.

We do not have the power to canonize them.

How can we, when only GOD can?

How can we, when we are sinful ourselves.

Consider the Bible's truth:

Genesis 6:5-6

King James Version

5 And God saw that the wickedness of man

was great in the earth,

and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart

was only evil continually.

6 And it repented the Lord

that he had made man on the earth,

and it grieved him at his heart.

Psalm 14:2-3

King James Version

2 The Lord looked down from heaven

upon the children of men,

to see if there were any that did understand,

and seek God.

3 They are all gone aside,

they are all together become filthy:

there is none that doeth good,

no, not one.

Jeremiah 17:10

King James Version

10 I the Lord search the heart,

I try the reins,

even to give every man according to his ways,

and according to the fruit of his doings.

Matthew 7:1-5

King James Version

7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge,

ye shall be judged:

and with what measure ye mete,

it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou

the mote that is in thy brother's eye,

but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother,

Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye;

and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5 Thou hypocrite,

first cast out the beam out of thine own eye;

and then shalt thou see clearly

to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Luke 16:15

King James Version

15 And he said unto them,

Ye are they which justify yourselves before men;

but God knoweth your hearts:

for that which is highly esteemed among men

is abomination in the sight of God.

Luke 18:8

King James Version

8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily.

Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh,

shall he find faith on the earth?

Luke 19:10

King James Version

10 For the Son of man is come

to seek and to save that which was lost.

John 8:7-9

King James Version

7 So when they continued asking him,

he lifted up himself,

and said unto them,

He that is without sin among you,

let him first cast a stone at her.

8 And again he stooped down,

and wrote on the ground.

9 And they which heard it,

being convicted by their own conscience,

went out one by one,

beginning at the eldest,

even unto the last:

and Jesus was left alone,

and the woman standing in the midst.

John 8:24

King James Version

24 I said therefore unto you,

that ye shall die in your sins:

for if ye believe not that I am he,

ye shall die in your sins.

John 8:44-45

King James Version

44 Ye are of your father the devil,

and the lusts of your father ye will do.

He was a murderer from the beginning,

and abode not in the truth,

because there is no truth in him.

When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own:

for he is a liar, and the father of it.

45 And because I tell you the truth,

ye believe me not.

Romans 3:9-10

King James Version

9 What then?

are we better than they?

No, in no wise:

for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles,

that they are all under sin;

10 As it is written,

There is none righteous,

no, not one:

Romans 3:12

King James Version

12 They are all gone out of the way,

they are together become unprofitable;

there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Romans 3:23

King James Version

23 For all have sinned,

and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 7:14

King James Version

14 For we know that the law is spiritual:

but I am carnal, sold under sin.

Romans 8:27

King James Version

27 And he that searcheth the hearts

knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,

because he maketh intercession for the saints

according to the will of God.

Ephesians 5:3

King James Version

3 But fornication,

and all uncleanness,

or covetousness,

let it not be once named among you,

as becometh saints;

1 John 2:16

King James Version

16 For all that is in the world,

the lust of the flesh,

and the lust of the eyes,

and the pride of life,

is not of the Father,

but is of the world.

1 John 5:19

King James Version

19 And we know that we are of God,

and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

Revelation 14:12

King James Version

12 Here is the patience of the saints:

here are they that keep the commandments of God,

and the faith of Jesus.

MORTIFYING the flesh

 Colossians 3:5

King James Version

5 Mortify therefore your members

which are upon the earth;

fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection,

evil concupiscence, and covetousness,

which is idolatry:

SPIRIT and I have started a series on addressing the sins of the flesh on this blog.

All because man's corrupt mind, body, and spirit are not acceptable to the LORD.

When GOD decides for JESUS to have His faithful meet Him up in the air, we must be worthy of the LORD.

The verse above speaks of "Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth".

These Bible versions explain more:

Colossians 3:5

American Standard Version

5 Put to death therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry;

Colossians 3:5

Colossians 3:5

Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

5 So kill (deaden, [a]deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members [those animal impulses and all that is earthly in you that is employed in sin]: sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God).

5 Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.

WORKS of the FLESH

 Galatians 5:19-21

King James Version

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest,

which are these;

Adultery, fornication,

uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance,

emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness,

revellings, and such like:

of the which I tell you before,

as I have also told you in time past,

that they which do such things

shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

It's time we addressed the sins of self.

Particularly the sins of the flesh.

The verses above will be explored more through these Bible versions:

Galatians 5:19-21

Amplified Bible

19 Now the practices of the [a]sinful nature are clearly evident: they are sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality (total irresponsibility, lack of self-control), 20 [b]idolatry, [c]sorcery, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions [that promote heresies], 21 envy, drunkenness, riotous behavior, and other things like these. I warn you beforehand, just as I did previously, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

19 Now the doings (practices) of the flesh are clear (obvious): they are immorality, impurity, indecency,

20 Idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger (ill temper), selfishness, divisions (dissensions), party spirit (factions, sects with peculiar opinions, heresies),

21 Envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you beforehand, just as I did previously, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Christian Standard Bible

19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious:[a] sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, 21 envy,[b] drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I am warning you about these things—as I warned you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Common English Bible

19 The actions that are produced by selfish motives are obvious, since they include sexual immorality, moral corruption, doing whatever feels good, 20 idolatry, drug use and casting spells, hate, fighting, obsession, losing your temper, competitive opposition, conflict, selfishness, group rivalry, 21 jealousy, drunkenness, partying, and other things like that. I warn you as I have already warned you, that those who do these kinds of things won’t inherit God’s kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

Complete Jewish Bible

19 And it is perfectly evident what the old nature does. It expresses itself in sexual immorality, impurity and indecency; 20 involvement with the occult and with drugs; in feuding, fighting, becoming jealous and getting angry; in selfish ambition, factionalism, intrigue 21 and envy; in drunkenness, orgies and things like these. I warn you now as I have warned you before: those who do such things will have no share in the Kingdom of God!

Galatians 5:19-21

Contemporary English Version

19 People's desires make them give in to immoral ways, filthy thoughts, and shameful deeds. 20 They worship idols, practice witchcraft, hate others, and are hard to get along with. People become jealous, angry, and selfish. They not only argue and cause trouble, but they are 21 envious. They get drunk, carry on at wild parties, and do other evil things as well. I told you before, and I am telling you again: No one who does these things will share in the blessings of God's kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

Disciples’ Literal New Testament

Those Who Practice The Works of The Flesh Will Not Inherit God’s Kingdom

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are sexual-immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousy, rages[a], selfish-interests, dissentions, factions, 21 envy[b], drunkenness, revelries, and the things like these— as to which things I tell you beforehand, just as I said-before, that the ones practicing such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury,

20 Idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, emulations, wraths, quarrels, dissensions, sects,

21 Envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like. Of the which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Easy-to-Read Version

19 The wrong things the sinful self does are clear: committing sexual sin, being morally bad, doing all kinds of shameful things, 20 worshiping false gods, taking part in witchcraft, hating people, causing trouble, being jealous, angry or selfish, causing people to argue and divide into separate groups, 21 being filled with envy, getting drunk, having wild parties, and doing other things like this. I warn you now as I warned you before: The people who do these things will not have a part in God’s kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

Evangelical Heritage Version

19 Now the works of the sinful flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, complete lack of restraint, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, discord, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders,[a] drunkenness, orgies, and things similar to these. I warn you, just as I also warned you before, that those who continue to do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Expanded Bible

19 The ·wrong things the sinful self does [works of the flesh/sinful nature] are ·clear [evident; obvious]: ·being sexually unfaithful [sexual immorality], ·not being pure [impurity], ·taking part in sexual sins [depravity; promiscuity], 20 ·worshiping gods [idolatry], ·doing witchcraft [sorcery], ·hating [hostility; antagonism], ·making trouble [discord; strife], being jealous, ·being angry [rage], ·being selfish [rivalries], ·making people angry with each other [dissensions], ·causing divisions among people [factions], 21 feeling envy, being drunk, ·having wild and wasteful parties [carousings; orgies], and doing other things like these. I warn you now as I warned you before: Those who do these things will not inherit God’s kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

GOD’S WORD Translation

19 Now, the effects of the corrupt nature are obvious: illicit sex, perversion, promiscuity, 20 idolatry, drug use, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, angry outbursts, selfish ambition, conflict, factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild partying, and similar things. I’ve told you in the past and I’m telling you again that people who do these kinds of things will not inherit God’s kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

Good News Translation

19 What human nature does is quite plain. It shows itself in immoral, filthy, and indecent actions; 20 in worship of idols and witchcraft. People become enemies and they fight; they become jealous, angry, and ambitious. They separate into parties and groups; 21 they are envious, get drunk, have orgies, and do other things like these. I warn you now as I have before: those who do these things will not possess the Kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Holman Christian Standard Bible

19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious:[a][b] sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, 21 envy,[c] drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance—as I told you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

International Children’s Bible

19 The result of sin’s control in our lives is clear. It includes sexual immorality, impurity and wild living, 20 worshiping false gods, doing witchcraft, hating, making trouble, being jealous, being angry, being selfish, making people angry with each other, causing divisions among people, 21 having envy, being drunk, having wild and wasteful parties, and doing other things like this. I warn you now as I warned you before: Those who do these things will not be in God’s kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

International Standard Version

19 Now the actions of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, promiscuity, 20 idolatry, witchcraft,[a] hatred, rivalry, jealously, outbursts of anger, quarrels, conflicts, factions, 21 envy, murder,[b] drunkenness, wild partying, and things like that. I am telling you now, as I have told you in the past, that people who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

J.B. Phillips New Testament

19-21 The activities of the lower nature are obvious. Here is a list: sexual immorality, impurity of mind, sensuality, worship of false gods, witchcraft, hatred, quarrelling, jealousy, bad temper, rivalry, factions, party-spirit, envy, drunkenness, orgies and things like that. I solemnly assure you, as I did before, that those who indulge in such things will never inherit God’s kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

Living Bible

19 But when you follow your own wrong inclinations, your lives will produce these evil results: impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, 20 idolatry, spiritism (that is, encouraging the activity of demons), hatred and fighting, jealousy and anger, constant effort to get the best for yourself, complaints and criticisms, the feeling that everyone else is wrong except those in your own little group—and there will be wrong doctrine, 21 envy, murder, drunkenness, wild parties, and all that sort of thing. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

The Message

19-21 It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on.

This isn’t the first time I have warned you, you know. If you use your freedom this way, you will not inherit God’s kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

Modern English Version

19 Now the works of the flesh are revealed, which are these: adultery, sexual immorality, impurity, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, rage, selfishness, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I previously warned you, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Names of God Bible

19 Now, the effects of the corrupt nature are obvious: illicit sex, perversion, promiscuity, 20 idolatry, drug use, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, angry outbursts, selfish ambition, conflict, factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild partying, and similar things. I’ve told you in the past and I’m telling you again that people who do these kinds of things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

New American Bible (Revised Edition)

19 [a]Now the works of the flesh are obvious: immorality, impurity, licentiousness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness, dissensions, factions, 21 occasions of envy,[b] drinking bouts, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

New Century Version

19 The wrong things the sinful self does are clear: being sexually unfaithful, not being pure, taking part in sexual sins, 20 worshiping gods, doing witchcraft, hating, making trouble, being jealous, being angry, being selfish, making people angry with each other, causing divisions among people, 21 feeling envy, being drunk, having wild and wasteful parties, and doing other things like these. I warn you now as I warned you before: Those who do these things will not inherit God’s kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

New International Reader's Version

19 The result of sin’s control in our lives is clear. It includes sexual sins, impure acts and wild living. 20 It includes worshiping statues of gods and worshiping evil powers. It also includes hatred and fighting, jealousy and fits of anger. Sinful desire is interested only in getting ahead. It stirs up trouble. It separates people into their own little groups. 21 It wants what others have. It gets drunk and takes part in wild parties. It does many things of that kind. I warn you now as I did before. People who live like this will not receive God’s kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

New International Version

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

New Life Version

19 The things your sinful old self wants to do are: sex sins, sinful desires, wild living, 20 worshiping false gods, witchcraft, hating, fighting, being jealous, being angry, arguing, dividing into little groups and thinking the other groups are wrong, false teaching, 21 wanting something someone else has, killing other people, using strong drink, wild parties, and all things like these. I told you before and I am telling you again that those who do these things will have no place in the holy nation of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

New Living Translation

19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Kehillah in Galatia 5:19-21

Galatians 5:19-21

Revised Standard Version

19 Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, 21 envy,[a] drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Tree of Life Version

I am warning you, just as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit God’s kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

The Voice

19 It’s clear that our flesh entices us into practicing some of its most heinous acts: participating in corrupt sexual relationships, impurity, unbridled lust, 20 idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, arguing, jealousy, anger, selfishness, contentiousness, division, 21 envy of others’ good fortune, drunkenness, drunken revelry, and other shameful vices that plague humankind. I told you this clearly before, and I only tell you again so there is no room for confusion: those who give in to these ways will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

World English Bible

19 Now the deeds of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21

Worldwide English (New Testament)

19 It is easy to see the wrong things people want to do. Both married people and those who are not married commit adultery. People make themselves unclean because of their wrong use of sex. They do things they should be ashamed of doing.

20 They worship idols. They use witch-power. They hate. They quarrel. They are jealous. They get angry. They want their own way. They do not agree together and they join different groups against each other.

21 They want what other people have. They even kill. They drink too much strong drink. They like to take part in loud drinking and dancing. They do other things like these. I have told you before and I tell you again. Those who do these things will not be in the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Wycliffe Bible

19 And the works of the flesh be open, which be fornication, uncleanness, unchastity, lechery,

20 service of false gods [serving to idols, or false gods], witchcrafts, enmities, strivings [strives], indignations, wraths, chidings, dissensions, sects [sects, or heresies],

21 envies, manslayings, drunken-nesses, unmeasurable eatings, and things like to these [gluttonies, and like things to these], which I say to you before, as I have told to you before, for they that do such things, shall not have the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Young's Literal Translation

19 And manifest also are the works of the flesh, which are: Adultery, whoredom, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strifes, emulations, wraths, rivalries, dissensions, sects,

21 envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revellings, and such like, of which I tell you before, as I also said before, that those doing such things the reign of God shall not inherit.

Now that we know all these, can we say our flesh is acceptable to the LORD JESUS?
